How to clone a website using WebHTTrack in Backtrack 5

In some case, we may need to clone a website for Reconnaissance or for Social Engineering attacks like phishing. It is important to understand that the more time you spend navigating and exploring the target website, the more likely it is that your activity can be tracked or traced. Remember anytime you interact directly with a resource owned by the target, there is a chance you will leave a digital fingerprint behind.

HTTrack can be download directly from the company's website at: http://www.httrack.com/. If you want to install HTTrack in Backtrack, you can connect to the Internet, open a terminal, and type: apt-get install webhttrack
Once the program is installed, you can find it by clicking Applications - Internet - WebHTTrack Website Copier.

Let's start and open up the application. Once you click on WebHTTrack Website Copier you will be prompted by the following screen in a browser.

Chose your language preference, if already in English just click next

Chose a project name and category name. If you wish to change the path of where the cloned site files with be stored you can next to Base path - NEXT

Under the action drop down box, you have a selection of actions to chose from

Here you have the ability to add the URL of the target page or site that you would like to clone. If you want too add multiple sites or site pages you can create a txt file with the URL entries.

Under preference and mirror option - Set options. There are many options here to improved your website cloning project. I would recommend visiting http://www.httrack.com/html/faq.html & http://www.httrack.com/html/index.html for in depth documentation

Narrowing down your cloning parameters would be a good idea before starting the cloning progress, cloning a whole website page-by-page can be very time consuming and you could be downloading many documents and files that the website hosts that you may not necessary need for what you are trying to achieve.
